Religious Pluralism
The philosophical position that multiple religious traditions are valid paths to ultimate reality or salvific truth. Pluralism (Hick) contrasts with exclusivism (one tradition holds exclusive truth) and inclusivism (one tradition is superior but others contain partial truth). Pluralism seeks to respect diverse traditions while maintaining commitment to one's own.
Real World
When Pope Francis met Grand Imam Ahmed el-Tayeb in Abu Dhabi (2019) and signed the Document on Human Fraternity, it signalled a move away from hard exclusivism toward a more pluralist recognition of multiple paths to peace and the divine.
Exam Focus
Always define exclusivism, inclusivism, and pluralism early in your answer; the entire debate loses coherence without these distinctions clearly established.
