Tactical Voting
Voting for a party that is not your first choice in order to prevent the party you least want from winning — a strategy encouraged by the FPTP system.
Real World
In the 2019 general election, many Remain-supporting voters in Conservative-held marginals backed the Liberal Democrats or Labour — whichever had the better chance of winning — rather than their preferred party, to try to prevent a Conservative majority.
