Insider and Outsider Groups
A classification based on whether pressure groups have close, regular access to government decision-makers (insiders) or operate outside the political establishment (outsiders).
Real World
The British Medical Association is a classic insider group, routinely consulted by the Department of Health on NHS policy; by contrast, Fathers4Justice used rooftop protests and stunts dressed as superheroes because they lacked any formal government access.
Exam Focus
Use Grant's typology explicitly — name 'insider' or 'outsider' and justify with evidence of access, not just methods used.
