Precision
A measure of how consistently a measurement can be made or how finely a measurement is resolved. High precision means repeated measurements are close together; low precision means measurements are scattered. Precision depends on the resolution of the measuring instrument and the skill of the experimenter, not necessarily on how close the measurements are to the true value.
Real World
Olympic timing systems by Omega measure 100 m sprint times to 0.001 s, giving precision far beyond a PE teacher's handheld stopwatch — allowing Usain Bolt's 9.58 s record to be distinguished from 9.59 s.
Exam Focus
Link precision to the spread of repeated readings, not to the true value — use 'closely clustered' rather than 'close to correct'.
