Charles's law
An ideal gas law stating that at constant pressure, volume is directly proportional to absolute temperature: V/T = constant, or V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂. Charles's law applies when pressure is held fixed.
Formula
V₁/T₁ = V₂/T₂
Real World
A sealed mylar balloon inflated indoors shrinks visibly when taken outside on a cold winter day, as the gas volume decreases proportionally with the drop in absolute temperature.
Exam Focus
Always convert Celsius to Kelvin before substituting into Charles's law; using °C gives incorrect answers and loses marks.
