Pressure law
An ideal gas law stating that at constant volume, pressure is directly proportional to absolute temperature: P/T = constant, or P₁/T₁ = P₂/T₂. The pressure law applies when volume is held fixed.
Formula
P₁/T₁ = P₂/T₂
Real World
Aerosol cans carry warnings not to incinerate them because heating a sealed can at constant volume causes pressure to rise proportionally, risking explosion.
Exam Focus
State that volume is constant when applying the pressure law, and convert temperatures to Kelvin — examiners penalise missing units.
