Mens rea
Mens rea
Real World
In R v Woollin (1999), a father threw his baby onto a hard surface, killing the child. The House of Lords held that a jury could find oblique intent where death or serious harm was a virtual certainty of the defendant's actions.
Exam Focus
Define the specific type of mens rea required — direct intent, oblique intent, recklessness, or negligence — do not use 'intent' generically.
