Murder
Murder
Real World
In R v Vickers (1957), the defendant broke into a shop and beat the elderly owner, who died. He was convicted of murder because intent to cause grievous bodily harm was sufficient mens rea, even without intent to kill.
Exam Focus
State both limbs of mens rea — intent to kill OR intent to cause GBH — and cite Vickers to show oblique intent suffices.
