Semantic field
A group of words related by shared meaning and typically associated with a particular topic, concept, or domain. Words in a semantic field share a common theme or area of meaning.
Real World
NHS recruitment adverts frequently draw on a semantic field of warfare — 'frontline', 'battle', 'heroes', 'fight' — to frame healthcare workers as soldiers, which intensified dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Exam Focus
List at least three words from the semantic field and explain the cumulative effect they create, not just individual word meanings.
