Metaphor
A figure of speech that describes one thing in terms of another by suggesting they are the same, without using 'like' or 'as'. Metaphors create imaginative connections between unlike things.
Real World
When Greta Thunberg told world leaders 'Our house is on fire' at Davos 2019, she used a metaphor equating the planet with a burning building, creating urgency by making the abstract threat of climate change feel immediate and domestic.
