Jargon
Specialised vocabulary used within a particular profession, activity, or social group. Jargon serves to communicate precisely within communities but can exclude outsiders.
Real World
NHS doctors use 'tachycardia' and 'contraindicated' precisely among colleagues, but a GP who uses the same jargon with a patient without explanation risks a serious breakdown in communication.
Exam Focus
Analyse jargon's dual function — inclusion of in-group members and exclusion of outsiders — rather than simply labelling it as 'technical language'.
