Tone analysis
The analysis of how an author's attitude toward subject matter is conveyed through word choice, syntax, imagery, and other stylistic elements. Tone is the emotional quality and attitude of a text.
Real World
In Wilfred Owen's Dulce et Decorum Est, Owen's tone shifts from exhausted detachment ('bent double, like old beggars') to furious accusation ('you would not tell… the old Lie'), exposing his bitter contempt for propaganda glorifying war.
Exam Focus
Always name the specific tone using a precise adjective, then quote a single word or phrase that proves it — vague tone identification scores poorly.
