Completely Randomised Design
In a completely randomised design, all units are randomly assigned to treatment groups without blocking. Each unit has equal probability of receiving any treatment. The design relies on randomisation alone to balance confounding variables across groups.
Real World
A university psychology department randomly assigns 60 volunteers to three different revision technique groups with no blocking, relying solely on random allocation to balance age, IQ, and motivation.
Exam Focus
Note this design is simplest but least precise when known sources of variation exist — contrast with blocked designs.
