Stem-and-leaf Diagram
A data display technique where values are split into a stem (all digits except the last) and a leaf (the last digit), arranged to show the distribution while preserving all original data values.
Real World
A PE teacher records 30 students' 100m sprint times using a stem-and-leaf diagram, with stems of 11, 12, 13 seconds, letting her spot the fastest and slowest runners while seeing the overall shape.
Exam Focus
Always include a key (e.g. '12|3 means 12.3') — without it, the examiner cannot award full marks.
