Multiplication Rule of Probability
The rule that P(A ∩ B) = P(A) × P(B|A), giving the probability that both events A and B occur. For independent events, this simplifies to P(A ∩ B) = P(A) × P(B).
Real World
Netflix estimates the probability a subscriber both watches a trailer and then starts the full film using P(watch film | watched trailer) multiplied by P(watched trailer).
Exam Focus
State whether events are independent before simplifying; claiming independence without justification loses the reasoning mark.
