Westernization
Westernization is the process by which non-Western societies adopt Western cultural values, political systems (democracy, human rights), economic models (capitalism, free markets), and lifestyles. It is often seen as inevitable accompaniment to modernization, though this is contested.
Real World
After the 1994 Rwandan genocide, the country adopted English as an official language alongside French and Kinyarwanda, reorienting toward the Anglophone world and Western-style governance to attract foreign investment.
Exam Focus
Distinguish Westernisation from globalisation — examiners reward candidates who recognise the two overlap but are not identical concepts.
