When the overall price level in the economy changes, economists show this by moving along the existing AD or AS curve. Nothing shifts the curve itself — only the price level triggers this kind of movement.

When UK energy prices surged in 2022, the overall price level rose; on an AD–AS diagram this showed as a movement up along the existing AD curve — consumers demanded less real output at the higher price level, with no shift of the curve itself.
