Names of individual species of bacteria are not required
You do not need to memorise the scientific names of specific bacteria. Focus on what each type of bacteria does in the nitrogen cycle, not what it is called.
Real World
AQA mark schemes for past papers on the nitrogen cycle award marks for naming processes (e.g. nitrification, denitrification) and conditions (aerobic/anaerobic), never for bacterial species names.
Exam Focus
Use functional group names (e.g. 'nitrifying bacteria', 'nitrogen-fixing bacteria') instead of species names — this is all the spec requires.
Evaluation Scaffold
A four-step framework for high-quality evaluation. Use this for 'assess', 'evaluate', and 'to what extent' questions.
